Summary of DBAOnline Annual Conference

The celebration contained two parts: the afternoon technical seminar session and dinner banquet/party.

About 200 members and database management professionals attended the technical seminar. Committee VP Mr. Yi Han was our host for this part. Six senior experts gave diversified presentations on the hottest database management related technologies. DBAOnline's Founder and President, Mr. David Wang, provided a business overview of the current Oracle DBA market. He also shared tips and his self-programmed tool for performance tuning -- a task that can be challenging for even senior DBAs. Mr. Jiangang Luo, a principal consultant from Oracle Corporation, demonstrated an Oracle Business Intelligence tool and the architecture design of Data Warehouse applications. AVP Oded Zehavi from

Etagon flew in from Israel specially to introduce their impressive tool that guarantees deployment of Oracle 9i RAC within an hour. Senior architect Stefan Kwiatkowski from Veritas showed us how to perform system/database tuning at O/S level in Veritas file system environment. Our Committee Director, Mr. Dong Li, shared his real world experience with standby database management. He set a great example for all other members proving that every member can contribute to DBAOnline with his/her specialties. Director Jon Bovit from Outerbay Technologies introduced application data lifecycle management. Each presentation covered a hot technology and development trend in database management. Together they offered attendees a wide range of valuable information which will enhance everybody's knowledge on current technologies.

The informative technical presentations were interjected with Live Tech Quiz (hosted by our Vice President Carol Sheng) and the exciting raffle (sponsored by Etagon). Member Laurel Lou, our lucky winner of the raffle, won a SONY Playstation2. Congratulations Laurel !

The dinner banquet resembled a holiday celebration. At 7:00 pm, 150 members and guests dressed up and stepped into the dining hall. Many VIPs came specifically to congratulate on the 4 th anniversary of DBAOnline. The dinner party was hosted by Committee VP Ms. April Cai. At the banquet, Mr. David Wang reviewed the history of DBAOnline from its beginning in 1999. He specially thanked committee members for their contribution to the organization. It was their team spirit, unselfish contributions and countless efforts that rendered the healthy growth and prosperity of our organization. He also thanked all the software companies for their sponsorship. Mr. JinSheng Dong, Chinese Counselor at Chinese Consulate in New York , gave keynote speech on the IT market and the potential opportunities in China . Mr. John Yeung (Chairman of New Jersey Chinese-American Chamber of Commerce), Ms. Elizabeth Wong (CEO & Executive Director of the New Jersey Higher Education Student Assistance Authority (HESAA)) and Mr. Jiacheng Liu (Deputy Director of Dalian Government Information Technology Bureau) also gave brief speeches.

Mr. Sean Chen, a member of the Hillsborough Board of Education and also a DBA, encouraged peers to participate community activities in addition to striving for excellence in their full-time jobs. Mr. David Wang took the opportunity to thank the media for their support. Member Wang Tao and special guest Yongping Lu, Yongping Lu, winner of Chinese Karaoke competition, gave an excellent performance. The spontaneous performance of the famous singer Mr. Yuan Xie received the crowd's applause and raised the party to its pinnacle.

The party also featured a live brainteaser quiz and funny picture hosted by VP Warren Yang and line dance lessons offered by members of the Rutgers Dancing Club. The event created a great environment for members to make new friends and network with other professionals. Many members were singing, dancing and fully enjoying themselves until midnight when the party ended in the chorus of “auld lang syne” and cheers. What a spectacular night!
